The Scarsdale Police Department recently participated in a two-week initiative designed to target drivers who fail to buckle up their seatbelts or fail to buckle in their child passengers, leading to 156 summonses that were issued.
Police said that during the enforcement wave, officers were looking for and ticketing adult operators who put themselves and children at risk by not buckling up everyone in the vehicle.
During the two-week detail, which was part of New York Gov. Andrew Cuomo’s Traffic Safety Committee’s “Buckle Up New York” program, 29 motorists were cited for not wearing seatbelts and one was ticketed for not having their child properly secured with a safety belt.
Additionally, nine other tickets were doled out for motorists using their cell phones, 20 were cited for disobeying traffic controls, 18 speeding violations were issued and one driver was arrested for allegedly driving while intoxicated.
